Lailatul Mairaj – The Night of Ascension
Lailatul Qadr (Night of Decree) is the most virtuous and spiritual night of the Islamic calendar. This is an important night for Muslims all over the world, as the first verses of the Holy Quran were revealed to Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by the Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) on this night. It takes place within the last ten days of Ramadan, most likely on one of the odd-numbered nights, with the 27th night being the most widely observed.
Importance of Lailatul Qadr
Lailatul Qadr is mentioned in the Quran itself, in Surah Al-Qadr (Chapter 97), Allah says:
“Indeed, We sent down the Qur’an during the Night of Decree. And what can make thee know what is the Night of Decree? Better than a thousand months is the Night of Decree. The angels and the Spirit descend as in it, by permission of their Lord, with all decrees. Peace, it shall be until dawn emerges.” (Quran 97:1-5)
Hence, one clear message from this verse is that the blessings and rewards of that worship offered on the Lailatul Qadr are far better than those offered over a thousand months. This great reward encourages Muslims to pray and worship Allah, the Almighty, on such an extraordinary night.
